The Pessimist In Me

Posted on: 30th of June 2005 | Under: Thoughts & Emotions

I always beam with optimism in everything that I do. I always look at the brighter side of things and never stop hoping for a better outcome. But, recently I found a sole issue that left the pessimism in me rise.

Yes, that issue is none other than - The Philippine Government.

I am truly appalled at the recent events going on in the government. The president making an apology to the Filipino people and admitting her faults (faults which are actually pretty much unclear right now, which makes everything more confusing!). Different crowds have sprung up protesting for PGMA to resign and frankly, I don’t even know where I stand anymore. I, along with millions of other Filipinos, have less, if not completely lost, trust in the president. Her actions this past week has been very much disappointing. I am not happy with her being president, but, I would not be entirely happy if she resigns (or is impeached) either. Why? Because I just don’t see anyone fit and qualified enough to uplift our country from the rut.

They’re all the same. Each one of them. Elect another for presidency and for sure, the cycle will just repeat itself. Every single one of them has an unbelievable crave for power. Power, power, power. That’s what they all want. They’re all out to bite each other’s heads off, wanting to grab the bigger slice of the cake.

They should all just quit stabbing each other with blames. They should all just quit grilling each other and quit craving for power. Nohing will happen to our country if they continue being the selfless twits that they are.

They should all forget the gaps between them and start working together. Hand-in-hand. If everyone would just stop being so greedy and actually work hand-in-hand, everything would surely work out. Forget competition. Forget being on top. Forget power. All that just makes the country suffer even more.

I have lost all hope in the Philippine government. I cannot see a bright future ahead of us. The only time I will be satisfied and will start rejoicing is when I finally see everyone seated down together, forgetting all their greediness and working as one. But, my goodness, a miracle must first take place for that to happen!

Goodluck to us!

I have read about this issue briefly in The Jakarta Post and although I may not be in the place to analyse it from my vantage point since I grew up from a different country — and may be rebuttled with comments like "do your homework again", I decided to take my chances.

I think people tend to rely too much on the President to be an epitome of perfection. I do not know what she has been doing but word has been going around that it was actually a good intention that went about in the wrong way. (I mean, dude, why was she taped in the first place? That in itself is no base for it to turn into a case.) As you said, people are so concerned about bloody go-getting that they forget that it takes more than one to tango. To make a nation work.

I think Gloria is trying her BEST to do something for the Phils. Based on what I read she is trying to hype the country up economically to allow a good amount of revenue for the next year or so, also allowing the nation to boom as a globally competitive country. However there are people who see that.. and think it’s their opportunity to say, "Hey! Let’s grab the powerful for OURSELVES." Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. It never works like that for any country.

So.. yeah. Let’s hope people — inside and outside the Philippines, as I intend this message to be relevant to all countries that have this problem — learn to take step by step together. It’s the only way it’ll work. =) The President is one person, but to work as a nation is to bring all the people together.

Oh, and I was meant to add. I don’t think that you were being pessimistic at all in the entry that you wrote. I think you were being realistic. A lot of people tend to mix up optimism with those crazy perma happy people who are smiling and deluded into thinking that "everything will be OK" when the world is falling apart and in need of something — aid — rather than an empty smile.

I think you beamed with optimism even in this entry because you were wishing and hoping something would happen for that country that would be in the positive. You acknowledged the carnage that is going on (OK, so carnage was a bad word.. but.. yeah) yet there a light at the end of the tunnel that you can still see. Those who are pessimistic end up condoning the latter. So, you have been living to your domain name, congratz!

I can’t agree with you more. It’s so frustrating to read the newspapers now a days. You’d see all these politicians… and all they do is bite each other’s heads off. It’s as if their personal issues are more important than what the country really needs. Really, God bless our country. Nice thoughts :)

You said it very well. although I am not really that informed about the recent happenings, I think the only way to solve this problem is to unite. division will get us nowhere.

And oh, forget about the egotistical http://clarence.has.it, came up with a new URL, last na yun, promise. =)
