Before JR and I had our ROM, we headed off to Kuala Lumpur for the Chinese New Year / Valentine’s weekend. We wanted some time to relax and unwind before officially and legally getting married, so we boarded the five hour bus ride and enjoyed three days of quality time together.

Hotel Istana was the official drop-off/pick-up point in KL for the bus that we took, so out of convenience we booked our two-night stay there too.

Quite a wise decision on our part, since the location was right in the middle of KL’s shopping belt. The hotel was a mere 5 minute walk to Pavilion (one of KL’s shopping malls), and about 5 minutes away by cab to the Petronas Twin Towers and the Suria KLCC mall (a shopping haven that has everything from posh brands like Gucci to department stores carrying affordable finds like Kipling)  too. Everything was conveniently within reach!

The hotel truly did not disappoint. Our room was pretty much modern and comfortable.

In fact, it was so comfortable that we spent both nights ordering room service for dinner instead of heading out to check out the city’s night spots. Well, like I said, we wanted a fuss-free weekend of just relaxing.

We didn’t even do much touristy activities. Instead, we spent most of our time doing some shopping and eating. Lots and lots of eating!

Too lazy to head out, we had room service for dinner on both evenings. I love, love, love room service! =P

And what I love most about staying in hotels is waking up in the morning to a buffet breakfast! Considering that it’s pretty much my favorite meal of the day, I get excited when a wide spread of morning food is presented in front of me. =P

Since we were at the hotel during the CNY weekend, we were able to catch the Lion Dance presentation at the lobby.

It was actually my first time to watch one up close, and I gotta say that I was pretty impressed! Their acrobatic routine kept me glued to the performance from start to finish! Plus, I thought it was cute how the lions interacted with the crowd. =P

The only real touristy thing we managed to do was pose in front of the Petronas towers. We were actually at Suria KLCC mall doing some more shopping, and since we were already there, we stopped for some snapshots before heading back to our hotel. =P

Our KL trip was our last getaway before we officially became Mr. and Mrs. Ignacio. :) It was indeed the prefect time to relax and unwind, because as soon as we arrived in Singapore, we had to go straight to the airport to pick up my sister who wanted to arrive in Singapore earlier than everyone else (so she could start shopping early! HAHA!).

Since it was our last day at the resort, we planned to wake up early enough to be able to catch the sunrise and squeeze in as many activities as we could before having to leave. We wanted to go biking, take the nature walk, then maybe try the Laser Quest. Unfortunately, we were so comfortable under the covers that we absentmindedly snoozed our alarms four or five times, resulting to us missing the sunrise by almost two hours. By that time, all we could just think about was food, so we headed down to the restaurant for our complimentary breakfast buffet.

We filled our plates with pancakes, bacon, sausages and egg, then had cereals and chicken curry with rice too.

We forgot to take photos of the other food, so we resorted to just taking photos of each other just to capture the moment. =P

We scrapped our initial plans to try out the other resort activities and walked down to the main pool instead. We just had to. This view was just so inviting:

And frolicked in the water.

And because our beach lounging was cut short the previous day, we decided to walk back to the beach again.

Remember when I mentioned two posts ago that every corner in Bintan Lagoon Resort was stunningly picturesque? Well, I managed to capture this lovely view on the way back to the beach:

It was a lovely morning. The weather was just perfect!

Back at the beach, the sound of the crashing waves soothed us to laze around in our lounge chairs.

I could spend the whole day at the beach just doing nothing! =P

While JR dozed off in his chair, I let my feet sink in the sand.

I wanted to walk along the shore so I could get my feet wet, but the scorching noon sun made it difficult to do so. I buried my head between the covers of my book instead.

After several chapters, and as soon as JR woke up from his nap, we went back to the pool (yeah, we were just going back and forth the whole day!) for some cold drinks.

Okay, it was actually just my excuse to dive back into the water. I needed to cool off after soaking up the sun at the beach.

Sun + Water + Cocktail = One Happy Girl! :)

While JR opted to stay dry.

And just to fill our tummies a little, we ordered a bowl of fries with our drinks.

I swear, swimming and fries are the perfect combination on a hot afternoon. :)

And just as we emptied the bowl of fries, our phones beeped, reminding us that it was time to head back to our room to pack and get ready for check out. :(

On the ferry back to Singapore.

Two days was too short to be able to do everything at the resort (just like myrtle beach vacation rentals?). They had so many water sports and activities that we wanted to try out. But either way, our stay was still enough for us to be able to experience the beauty of Bintan. We enjoyed every minute of our relaxing trip, and are glad we finally found a small paradise only fifty-five minutes away from Singapore. :)

Only fifty-five minutes away by ferry from Singapore, Bintan Indonesia is quite a popular travel destination for Singapore residents. We’ve heard a number of good reviews about the small tropical paradise, so JR and I decided to take an overnight getaway for some rest and relaxation.

We booked a room at Bintan Lagoon Resort, and as soon as we got out of the ferry terminal, we hopped on the free shuttle service that took us to the resort.

All throughout the twenty-minute ride to the resort, we were greeted with lush greenery left and right. We had our eyes glued to the pretty view outside our windows the whole time that it made the journey seem shorter. We were just admiring the sight of wild monkeys lounging by the side of the road, when our bus finally turned into the resort entrance.

And as soon as we got off the bus, we were served cold refreshments and greeted with welcome dancers.

Our room was complete with a queen bed, LCD TV, writing desk, fridge, closet, a small lounging area raised on a platform, bathroom with a tub, and a balcony overlooking the beach. Aside from the bathroom, which looked like it could use some redecorating, the room was comfortable and cozy. Quite comparable to those Outer Banks beach rentals, I must say!

Cables were also provided for internet. We were expecting the connection to be complimentary, but unfortunately it had charges. Since we were just staying overnight, we subscribed to the 24-hour fee of $25SGD. Not too bad, since the connection was quite fast anyway.

As soon as we got settled in, we headed to have an early lunch. We were disappointed to learn that almost all the restaurants were only open for dinner (the ones that served lunch weren’t scheduled to open until another hour or so at the time), so we settled for the cafe by the lobby instead.

These we enjoyed with this breathtaking view in front of us.

And without wasting another minute, I dragged the boyfriend down to the beach right after we downed our meals.

And like a true beach bum, I made sure to have these essentials with me:

Camera (polaroid love!), book and iPod.

Oh, and of course I didn’t forget the cold drink! :)

The afternoon weather was perfect for just lounging with our books in hand. But with this pretty view stretched out in front of us, it was hard resisting the water’s call.

The waves were quite strong.

So I just went in and let the waves push me around for a couple of minutes.

I would have loved staying in the water a little longer, but we had an appointment at the spa for our massage.

The massage was relaxing. Fifty five minutes on the table, where I think I dozed off thrice. It was so good that I even forgot to take photos of the massage room. We walked out so refreshed that we even had the energy to play a game of table tennis for thirty minutes.

It was only after we finished our game when we realized that we had missed the sunset, so we just headed back to our room to rest and freshen up for our belly-bulging dinner at Nelayan Grill.

The only thing on the menu were the main courses and beverages, everything else was serve buffet style. So, as we waited for our main course, we helped ourselves to some soup, bread, salad and appetizers.

These we downed just in time for our orders to arrive hot on our plates.

This was delish!

We had steak. So not beachy, but I just wasn’t in the mood for seafood. =P

The serving was huge that I only had a tiny space in my tummy left for my dessert!

I wanted a bowl of ice cream topped with almonds and caramel syrup to cap the night, but my tummy just couldn’t take any more. Besides, I still had my glass of Mai Tai to savour. =P

The dinner was filling, in the form of both food and conversation. The perfect end to our day. :)

We initially planned to check out the Halloween party at Silk after our dinner, but we were so full that we decided to just call it a night.

The boyfriend and I went on an overnight getaway to Bintan Lagoon Resort in Indonesia before I flew back to Manila.

The resort was beautiful. Every corner was stunningly picturesque. Which is why I literally went shutter happy! :)

It was also the perfect time to try out more HDRs:

The beach had these huge rocks (no asbestos, so no mesothelioma threats) that were just worth taking shots of.

This year has been pretty eventful for me in terms of traveling. I shuffled quite a bit between Manila and Singapore, and had several trips to other countries, including Brunei and Malaysia too. Next weekend, the boyfriend and I are also heading to Bintan, Indonesia for an overnight getaway before I fly back to Manila.

I obviously enjoy the thrill of traveling. Sometimes I wish I could really just take a year off, hop on a plane (after buying some travel insurance online, maybe) and go from one country to another. ♥

As I mentioned in my post about our Caramoan Adventure, we recorded bits and pieces of our escapade on video too. Almost two dozen sets of them were great visuals on their own, but I decided to dissect a few and mashed them into a four-minute music video to the tune of Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling” (our official Bicol-Caramoan Getaway song).

It isn’t exactly bluray quality, but I believe it captured well how the island tickled our souls and turned our vacation into one cotton candy of an adventure. ♥♥♥

Our Caramoan Getaway was actually sandwiched between several days in Legazpi City in Albay, Bicol. Another couple of days well-spent with a wonderful group of people!

Thanks to Shella’s warm, generous and extremely hospitable family, our group was well taken care of during our entire stay. We were driven around the city, fed to the brim and were given the luxury of comfortably staying in their beach house too. Such a lovely family! :)

• Shella’s brother driving us around, and taking us to Doña Pepita Golf Course super early in the morning (despite only a few hours of sleep!), so we could get a nice and uncrowded view of the Mayon volcano. Thank you! :)
• The numerous driving back and forth between Shella’s MANY houses in Bicol! HAHA! I think that’s what really tired us the most. LOL!
• Unwinding in the Moyano beach house. It was a great way to rest and relax with the bunch.
• Staying up late with the group, even if we had to be up really early in the morning. Great conversations are love! :)
• Waking up to the lovely sunrise view of the beach. Something that I would love to enjoy every single day!
• Our endless photo shoot moments. The click of the shutter could be heard almost every few minutes! The best visual memory of the grand time that we had! <3
• Laughing. Laughing. Laughing. <3

Our Legazpi escapade capped off our entire vacation. It is of no question that we indeed had a ball of a time! We had so much fun that even weeks after the trip, we still have a big getaway hangover! <3<3<3

These past couple of months, raves about the beauty of Caramoan Islands in Camarines Sur have been sprouting the internet, that I mentally took note to add it to one of the places I want to see before I die. It was quickly ticked off my long list when I gladly accepted my friend’s invitation to join them on a trip there last month. It was a decision that I made on a whim, without even having to think twice. Another one of my carefree/happy-go-lucky spasm attacks, where I couldn’t have been more right, because not even a split second of disappointment lingered throughout the entire trip.

Two days and two nights was simply too short a time to be able to see all the islands in the area, but we managed to squeeze several in our agenda, experiencing the best adventure of our lives while at it.

The whole getaway was filled with surprising adventures left and right. From long boat rides, yellow wonderlands, tiresome hikes, motorbike rides, swimming under the rain, to heart-pumping tricycle rides on bumpy tracks of giant potholes. And of course, it was also filled with wonderful sceneries, joyous laughter and happy moments that will surely be etched in our memories forever.

And because I truly believe that pictures speak a thousand words, here are a ton of photos for your viewing pleasure. :)

Our home for two nights. Our yellow wonderland. It was the most affordable Inn on the island. Not too bad, except for the tiny bathroom… and the fact that the color yellow was practically following us everywhere. HAHA!

Our first stop: Matukad Beach. We didn’t stay here long, because the crew of Survivor Bulgaria was setting up on one portion of the island.

Our next stop: Lahos Island. It rained when we got here, but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the beach.

Good thing we stayed, because soon enough, the clouds cleared up to a lovely pre-sunset sky. <3

Our last stop for the day: Minalahos Island. Since it was already high tide by the time we arrived, there was only about 3sqm of the beach left visible. We ended up just enjoying the water before heading back to the Inn for dinner and an early night in bed.

Day 2: After quite a heavy downpour that made us fret another wet weather, the lovely sun finally appeared to greet us. :)

I believe that 90% of any trip or vacation’s success goes to the company that you are with. These guys made me enjoy our Caramoan adventure more. Breathtaking views and beautiful adventures are nothing without fun friends to share them with. <3

Our first stop for the day: Barangay Tabgon, where we climbed to the top of Caglago mountain to see the Mother of Peace Grotto. See the top of that mountain above? We climbed the 524+ steps all the way up there!

It was an extremely tiring climb. I already wanted to roll down the steps at one point! But we were persistent enough to reach the top (no exit signs!), so we continued until our efforts were paid off. Seeing this made it all worth it!

And of course, putting all the poise aside, I immediately flopped down to the grass as we reached the foot of the grotto. =P See how red my face turned? HAHA!

We were really tired! =P

Only four of us made it to the top. Carlo and Shella barely made it to 100 steps, so they opted to walk back down and just wait for us. HAHA!

Several times during the day (during low tide), Milo and Abed had to get off and push the boat. Yay to having strong men with us! LOL!

Our third stop: Bugtong Beach.

It was the perfect time to lounge on the sand with my book. <3 I eventually joined the rest of the guys in the water after I had enough of the skin roasting.

Our final stop was the Sand Bar in front of Barangay Gugon. Situated several kilometers away from the nearest island, this sand bar is only visible during low tide. It was beautiful!!! <3

I’m not kidding, it was really beautiful! So beautiful that we opted not to go to any of the other islands and just enjoyed our time there instead. It was the best spot for our beach shoot. =P

We took a gazillion photos during the getaway (we had five cameras with us!) and frankly, it was quite difficult having to pick only several to share here. I was itching to post all of them! Haha!

Some note-worthy memories:

• We managed to bump into one of the locals who happened to be a distant relative of one of Shella’s friends. He took us around and showed us the nice and less populated spots.
• I loved how the islands weren’t packed at all. We managed to spend time in ALL of the islands we visited all by ourselves. It made the whole experience more intimate. Definitely better than overcrowded beaches like Boracay.
• The tricycle ride to Paniman beach (and back) where the unpaved road was full of huge muddy holes! It left us clinging to each other, silently praying that our ride wouldn’t topple over. =P
• Playing pusoy dos in bed after dinner. Then managing to squeeze the six of us in two queen size beds, where we slept like sardines for two nights. HAHA!
• Taking loads of underwater photos and videos! Thanks to Carlo’s lovely camera! :) I compiled some of them into the music video that I made with all the other videos. View video here.
• Our laughing spells. I just loved spending every minute with the bunch! :)

Sigh. Our Caramoan Adventure was truly one vacation to remember. <3

But, our expedition didn’t really end with Caramoan. A post on our Bicol escapade will follow. SOON. :)

Traveling is something that I find great pleasure in. Something that I tend to crave for every once in a while.

I’m a Filipino, but unfortunately I’m quite a stranger to my homeland. I’ve visited more tourist spots all over the world (USA, Europe, Asia) than in my own country. It’s not that I chose to ignore the many wonderful places in the Philippines, I was generally just too young to choose and control the destinations of my previous travels. Now that I’m older and have my own money to spend (very little of it, might I add! LOL!), I’ve been indulging myself to the beautiful sceneries of the Philippines.

Last Sunday, I came back from a place that re-ignited my love and desire for traveling and getting to know my homeland. It was a five-day getaway that overflowed with adventures, laughter and dozens of  breathtaking backdrops.

Here’s a sneak peek of it:

Beaches. No rivers, lakes, ponds (or pond supplies), just a whole lot of beaches. :)

The last time I was in Brunei was back in 1999, before we left and moved back to Manila for good. I’ve been wanting to go back for so long. My family lived there for a little over six years, and although it may seem such a short time, those years were definitely packed with so many wonderful memories. In fact, I genuinely believe that Brunei contributes to 70% of my growth as a person.

After TEN YEARS, I finally flew back. :)

What finally got me to fly back to Brunei after so long, you may ask? The wedding of one of my closest friends in the world. =) After getting settled into our hotel, we all headed to church for a quick rehearsal.

And of course, me being back in Brunei (after 10 years!) was a cause for a mini-celebration with my ladies!!! Chinky and Kriselda picked JR and I up from our hotel for an Italian buffet dinner with the others. :)

I was really excited to see Suzanne. I see Chinky and Matet occasionally, and I see Kriselda a lot, but Sue and I haven’t seen each other since I left 10 years ago! Was really ecstatic to finally see her again! :)

I was obviously very happy to be back in Brunei. I was even excited to see Brunei dollars again! LOL!

5/7 of the dancing chicas! The only missing were Carla and Michelle, and we could’ve gone up on stage to do those dance numbers like we used to! Hehe!

My first night back in Brunei, and I already felt like I was back home! :) The whole place looks the same! Just a few new roads and buildings here and there, but really, it was as if I just left a few months ago! =P My overused phrase the entire trip was “Nothing’s changed!” HAHA! Even the music that they were playing at Capers (where we had dinner) was so 10 years ago! Think ‘N Sync, 98 Degrees, Gabrielle, Janet Jackson and Aerosmith! =P

Instead of going back to the hotel right after coffee and dessert, the four of us decided to go on an impromptu road trip!

First agenda was to drive past my old house, because I told them I wanted to take a photo of me in front of it! HAHA! I really jumped out of the car and made them take this photo… even if it was dark and creepy outside! LOL!

This was our 2nd house in Brunei. You can’t really see the entire house from this view, but that’s my parents’ room on the 2nd floor with the balcony and the two windows. I was looking forward to seeing my old house, but I ended up just being disappointed with what I saw. It looks so old and creepy now! =( It used to be so nice and pretty, with my dad’s well kept garden and flowers along the driveway. But after 10 years, it looks just like an abandoned old house. So sad! =(

Seeing my old house was depressing, so we drove to a nicer and much much much prettier place – The Empire Hotel! We took the semi-long (not that long really, because Brunei is such a tiny country!) drive just to use the loo… and take vain photos too! =P See how pretty it is!!! Too bad we couldn’t go back in the daytime. We just didn’t have enough time! :(

The following day, Chinky picked JR and I up early so we could go to mass. It was nice hearing mass back in C.O.L.A. =) It was nice seeing a handful of familiar faces there too! :)

After mass, Matet took us out for a quick lunch at Jollibee… because JR was craving for it! HAHA! Then we spent the rest of our day resting back at the hotel, to recharge and get ready for a long wedding day celebration.

Two days back in Brunei, and I really felt back at home already. <3
