Last Saturday, my mother was messaging me at seven in the morning telling me to go online. She was so excited that she wanted me to go on skype right away.
The reason behind it was because I was featured in the Philippine Daily Inquirer. =)

I really wish I could have been there to see, not just my moleskine, but the others too.
SPOT MY NAME! :)

Exactly two weeks ago, I received an email from Marsida Shyti from moleskine.com, inviting me to participate in the Moleskine Exhibit for the London Book Fair in April. She chanced upon my moleskine art through my flickr, and chose me, together with several other moleskine users/artists to participate.
Here’s an excerpt from her email:
Like every year Moleskine will attend this important fair. We focused our attention upon the value of the trade show through the original and artistic use of Moleskine notebooks, so we decided to choose and expose a small quantity of the most stylish Moleskine notebooks.
Your work is perfect for this purpose! It represents the ideal feeling we would communicate about Moleskine and, in our opinion, could also be a good opportunity for you in terms of visibility.
Do you agree to send us one of your Moleskine notebook? Otherwise, if you prefer, we can send you a new notebook to personalise. For your co-operation and your kind help we will send you five new Moleskine notebooks, the layout you prefer.
And because an opportunity like this doesn’t really come everyday, I agreed to participate. I guess it’s also the perfect excuse for me to start drawing/painting again. I actually haven’t touched my moleskine sketch in almost a year!
I got into the groove right away, and have been enjoying my free time filling up my moleskine every day. Here are a few of the things I’ve done so far:

I have about twenty more pages to do before I send the book to Marsida Shyti in Italy. And I only have until the end of the month for that, so wish me luck! =)

I missed making perspectives and rendered drawings, so yesterday, I sat myself down and worked in my moleskine sketch.

I finally got my hands on my 3rd and 4th moleskines. Benedict delivered them to JR’s office early on in the week, but JR and I only saw each other again yesterday, so you could probably imagine how excited I was to see them.
I ripped the packaging as soon as I sat myself down at Starbucks!

I’ve never really been into using charcoal for sketching. I hated the mess it’d leave on my fingers. I never really knew how to handle the dark and heavy strokes it made either. I always feared that I wouldn’t be able to control my tonal values.
But, because of my sudden desire to draw this afternoon (plus the privilege of being able to stay home), I finally faced my fears. I rummaged through my art stuff, took out my charcoal pencil and one of my old sketchbooks. And as soon as I dusted off the accumulated dust from my sketchbook (I haven’t touched it in almost 4 years!), I sat myself and began to draw.
After almost 2 hours of smudging and getting my fingers all black, I ended up with this (click on the image for a bigger view). I pretty much surprised myself! I was looking through my old sketchbooks and I must say that my sketches have improved a great deal. And considering that it’s my first time to use charcoal again (after 5 years?), I am pretty proud of the drawing. =) Even the hair, which, I’m honest to say, is not at all my forte, turned out better than I espected. ^^;;
Now I’m even more enthusiastic in learning and improving my sketches with the use of charcoal! =)
