The Internet Has Come A Long Way

Posted on: 11th of November 2008 | Under: Geek Talk

The internet has grown so much in the last decade that it has made lives of millions of people around the world so much easier. Knowledge is passed on so much faster now. Gone are the days when one would have to wait to get to a library to find out about a specific topic. Now, the internet allows the whole world to be explained with just a few clicks. Every topic imaginable is here: from historical events to current news, to food recipes to even medical or legal means like finding cerebral palsy lawyers.

I have been an active internet user for over eleven or twelve years, and a blogger for nine of that. It has been the best tool for researching, communication, as well as self and creative expression. For me, the internet has turned from a simple necessity to an entire lifestyle.

BoNa Experience

BoNa Coffee, located in BF Parañaque, is one place that a lot of bloggers (including Venice) have been raving about recently. Since I myself am a sucker for good coffee, and because it’s just a quick drive from my house, I vowed to try it out while in Manila.

On my second day back, I found some time to spare, so I headed straight to BoNa to spend some quality time with myself. As soon as I entered the door, I was greeted by a group of extra friendly baristas behind the counter. I’m quite used to baristas greeting customers upon entering, but somehow the ones at BoNa were different. They were sincere with their greetings, speaking softly with genuine smiles on their faces; totally different from the “hello” and “good days” baristas usually just shout out to entering customers in more commercialized coffee shops (eg. Starbucks).

The place itself was slightly different from other coffee shops. It was dimly-lit and was embellished with eclectic furniture pieces and accessories. Contemporary chairs and sofas were paired with antique coffee tables and display cabinets. I loved it’s small and cozy ambiance, and how it made me feel so much at home.

The coffee and food didn’t disappoint me either. My order of skinny latte and chocolate orange muffin were a perfect combination. And they (everything that they serve, actually) were also low in fat and calories! My palate was overwhelmingly pleased for something quite healthy!

Another perk that made me stay longer than planned was their free Wi-Fi! Before leaving for Singapore I was always in a constant search for coffee shops around the metro with free internet services. For a geek like me, nothing gets better than being able to surf while having my cup of coffee. I’ve tried many other coffee shops with free internet, but have always been disappointed with their slow connections. BoNa’s Wi-Fi was F-A-S-T! No Page Timeouts! I was on cyber heaven! My MacBook was just as happy as I was! Maybe next time I should bring a Bluetooth headset, so I can watch one or two videos too. =P

I enjoyed my BoNa experience so much that I’m sure I would probably become a regular there if I still lived in Manila. I should drop by again before we head back to Singapore on Sunday. There are a lot more drinks on their menu that I want to try out. =)

Wordpress Woes

Posted on: 6th of September 2008 | Under: Geek Talk

I am currently using the boyfriend’s wordpress application on his iPod touch to compose this. For some reason, wordpress won’t allow me to login into my account on the web. It just keeps getting redirected to my login page every time I try. Has anyone else experienced this?

**EDIT**

Finally got the problem fixed! The boyfriend had to delete the “automatic update” plugin to get everything back to normal.

No Longer a Net Addict?

You know that you’re no longer addicted to the internet when:

  • you can let a day pass without touching the computer.
  • you don’t get excited about going home to sit in front of the computer anymore.
  • you can no longer take staying up ’til the whee hours of the morning just surfing random websites.
  • you no longer know every single detail about what’s happening in everyone’s lives.
  • you don’t glue yourself in front of the monitor checking your email every 10 minutes.
  • you don’t logon friendster everyday anymore.
  • you no longer come up with new blog layouts every week.
  • you have over one month intervals between blog posts.
  • you’re not aware that your online friends already have new blog urls or domains.
  • you find that everytime you logon LJ, you have over 5 pages worth of friends’ back posts to read.
  • you’d rather sleep or watch TV than go online.
  • you no longer blog hop for hours.
  • you no longer memorize all the Y!M emoticons shortcuts.
  • you start feeling that reading online journals is a chore.
  • you already have time to finish 3 different books in a week.
  • you find your social life in full swing.

Ahhh, come to think of it, I think I’m no longer addicted to the internet. Well, not so addicted as I used to be, that is. :)

I love life. Oh yes I do! ^_,~;;
