Web Design: Bedazz!
Posted on: 26th of January 2010 | Under: Artsy Fartsy, Geek Talk

It has been over ten years since my first love affair with web design. The first few years of that decade was spent enthusiastically designing different layouts for personal websites and blogs I maintained all over the internet. However, the last half saw very little creative juices output on my my part, not necessarily due to the lack of spark plug juices (although, I did seem to run out of ideas for a while), but more of the fact that I had become more active in my offline life.

I enjoy spending more time in “the real world” but every once in a while, I do miss sitting in front of the monitor wracking my brain for hours until I came up with layouts to suit my liking.

Since my sister was planning to launch a Multiply site for her very own set of makeup brushes, Bedazz, I took the opportunity and volunteered to help her design the whole site from start to finish.

I quickly staged a late-night photo shoot, with my sister as the model. Our very own living room was turned into a makeshift studio, with one of our table lamps used as soft lighting.

We then had a quick product shoot the following afternoon in our garage, using the sun’s natural light.

And with all the graphics and images ready, I spent several hours designing and fiddling with template codes.

The outcome?

A simple Black and White layout with just a few embellishments here and there.

I took more time tweaking with codes than in designing the actual layout. My knowledge and skill in HTML and CSS has decided to fail me. Well I’m not really surprised, considering that it has in fact been years since I last fiddled around with code. =P

Anyway, do check out the multiply site. :)

Bedazz currently has three makeup brushes in its line, with several others in the testing stage. I’m not being biased, but the brushes are really nice! Mix good quality with affordable prices (only Php700 or around USD14 for a full-sized stippling brush!), it sure is a great deal!

Great Conversations

Throughout the ten years that I’ve been blogging, I’ve gathered quite a number of online friends already. Though I’m not as active in the current blogging scene, I still keep in touch with those that I’ve known for quite a while. A handful of them have actually turned into real life friends of mine. One of them is Rachel, or Nikz as she is popularly known online. :)

She was in the country for a several weeks last month, so we met up for late lunch the day before she left.

We don’t get to talk much nowadays (last time we had a long conversation was when we had coffee during her quick trip back in 2007), so seeing her was a great treat. It’s always nice catching up with her, because we can just quickly pick up from where we left off. (: I’ll see you again SOON, Nikz! Hehe!

In other news, my mom arrived back from Vancouver this morning. Stashed in her luggage was my pack of makeup orders! They’ve been sitting on my bed since early this morning, but I can’t seem to get myself to open them yet. They’re so pretty, I’ve just been staring at them all this time! HAHA! Will post them once I’m done ogling and maybe after I nap. Been up all night, I need to head off to bed and dream of sunsets and Orange beach hotels. XP

Pinoy Plurkers / Bloggers Fiesta in Singapore
Posted on: 2nd of May 2009 | Under: Life & Love

In the years that I’ve been blogging, I can generally count with my fingers the number of times I’ve gone out to meet other bloggers. I’ve never really been active with blogger events. In fact, in the last couple of years, I hardly even visit new blogs. I still visit and read those that I’ve been constantly reading for years, but I don’t bloghop much anymore.

But eversince I moved here in Singapore, meeting other bloggers has somewhat become more fun for me. Perhaps having a great time meeting Ederic, Alex and Leonard last December made me more excited about meeting new people.

So last week, I was glad to meet with other Pinoy plurkers/bloggers over dinner and a round of drinks after. I met up with April, waited for JR to get off work (web programming jobs, yo!), then walked to The Esplanade. I’m happy we went, because it was a definitely one great night with yummy Thai food, free dessert, free wine too (!!!), and fun (funny? =P) company.

Here’s the bunch:

Jing, Alex, Aileen (who was visiting from Manila), Drew, Jaren, Kat, Kates, Bel, Jansci (the one in yellow, hiding behind Bel =P), JR, me and April. Missing in this photo is Carl. =P

To Someone Special
Posted on: 18th of April 2009 | Under: Life & Love, Shoutous

Almost every year, I try to come up with online gifts for the boyfriend‘s Birthday. It has somehow become a yearly tradition of mine. The first couple of years, I was always eager to come up with different things to surprise him, but I lost the creativity and drive to create them for the past three years. Those were also the years that I spent very little time on my internet life and more time on my actual one, so I guess I somehow had an excuse. =P

For the benefit of those who weren’t present in those creative years of mine, here’s the list of the “online gifts” that I gave him:

  • 22nd Bday – This was actually before we got together. =P One of the many “projects” Rachel and I did. =D
  • 23rd Bday -Made this with the help of Rachel again. =D
  • 24th Bday – A simpler one-page greeting.
  • 25th Bday – Just a blog greeting.
  • 26th Bday – I didn’t make anything online =P
  • 27th Bday – No online gift again. But I flew here to Singapore to spend several days with him. I was still working back in Manila then.

Today is his 28th Birthday. For my online gift this year (I finally had some time on my hands!), I compiled greetings from a handful of his family and friends. A total of 46 greetings this time! =D
